Arriba Nacional, the heirloom variety of Ecuadorian cacao, known for its delicious floral flavors and pungent aromas is but 1% of Ecuador’s cacao production. This high vibrational variety with more sophisticated organoleptic properties is being replaced with a more homogeneous and higher yielding but less flavorful and less nutritional varieties of GMO cacao. This variety of Cacao was made with what remains of the old cacao grows still present in the province of Manabi, along the banks of the Portoviejo river.
